About Me

Writing stories and poetry are my passions in life, along with reading, and you can often find me with my nose in my book or my e-reader about as often as I’m putting pen to paper. I’m an avid reader of most genres, but my favorites are sci fi, fantasy, and action/adventure.

But there’s much more to me than this. I’m highly creative and am always thinking on new projects. My muses are quite active. Sewing, quilting, embroidering, cross-stitching, plastic canvas, tatting, knitting, crocheting, and decoupage are a few of my  many interests. I wish I could say that I’m also an artist, but sadly, I haven’t got great perception when it comes to drawing or painting. After all these years, I still haven’t graduated from simple stick figures.

I love to go thrifting at the local thrift stores and pick up items in need of a creative repair. Angels are high on my list right now. I enjoy coming up with ways to fix them.

Linguistics is my hobby, and I’m fascinated by ancient languages and in particular, Proto-Indo European.

I’ve practiced Hatha Yoga and Ballet for most of my life. They bring a serenity to me that no other form of physical exercise can. I’m a strong believer in exercising your mind, body, and essence, so exercise is an essential part of my life.

I’m a baker too. I love to bake breads, desserts, and cookies. I’m also a cake decorator and I can get quite creative with that, so my family never knows what one of my cakes may look like.  Trust me, sometimes I don’t know how they’ll turn out.

Although I’m talented, there are some things I’ve never been able to conquer. I can’t ride a horse. I’m afraid of them and they know it. I can’t swim. I’ve taken a myriad of swimming lessons in my lifetime and embarrassingly, failed each one. I sing flat. I often tell people that I sing in D flat and someone will make the comment, “But there is no D flat.” And I respond with, “Sure there is. Donna’s flat.”

As for my writings, I like to say that my heart belongs to stories but my soul belongs to poetry. I have been writing stories and poetry since a teacher first placed a pencil in my hand and I learned the alphabet, or so my twin brother tells me. By the way, it should come as no surprise that I’m fascinated with twins.

I didn’t take publishing seriously until my later years. I’m now retired and can spend my days writing, and I love every second of it. Within each of my stories lies a treasure to be found, and isn’t that true of all great stories?

I usually write stories in the Fantasy Romance Genre, but I’ve also written a SciFi Romance and a satirical set of short stories. As for my poetry, I often write in the Genres of Spiritual, Love, or New Age.

I’m an Indie author and proud of it. Along with Joleene Naylor and Roger Lawrence, I make the third partner in The Ink-slingers League. We’re dedicated to helping each other and every writer become a success. You can join us at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/the-ink-slingers-league

  1. Hi there DM! So great to ‘meet’ you. I am an author and I discovered your author group board on Pinterest. I would love the opportunity to join. How do I go about doing this?
