Stepping Stones a Book of Poetry by DM Yates

Smashwords’ July sale will run through July 31st and there are plenty of books at excellent prices and FREE for your downloading pleasure.

My books are all FREE through July 31st: DM Yates Smashwords

Today, I want to share with you two poems from my book of poetry, Stepping Stones to Love, Honour, and Respect.

Isn’t the cover beautiful? It’s another cover made for me by my talented and awesome friend, Joleene Naylor:

Joleene understood just what I wanted for my cover. I’d explained it from a dream I had. Thank you again, Joleene, for another amazing cover.

I love poetry. I always have. I was first influenced by ‘A Child’s Garden of Verses’ by Robert Louis Stevenson.  That book sent me on my way to writing poetry.

Poetry warms the soul and it certainly does mine.

Here’s a video I made where I recite two of my favorite poems from my book. If you’re interested in downloading, just click the smashwords link above. If you want to purchase the book (99cents for e-readers) just click on the button to the right.

Love, Honor, and Respect to all.

Ready for 2 More Excellent Books?

The last couple of blogs have been about author Roger Lawrence’s latest novel, Book of Pain.

Today, I want to mention 2 more reads.

Kay Kauffman has just published her latest poetry work, A Song for All Seasons. I read her first poetry book, Tuesday’s Dreams and absolutely loved it. I can’t wait to read A Song for All Seasons.

The book sells for $2.99 on Amazon. You can click on the above picture to find it or click on this link: A Song for All Seasons Amazon

Kay’s poetry is gentle and relaxing and makes for a wonderful read. Be sure to follow her author page too.

Clash of Legends by Joleene Naylor. This is Joleene’s newest book in her Amaranthine series, and she has yet to disappoint her fans. The book isn’t released yet, It will be in 3 days, but you can pre-oreder it. Check out the information on her website: Amaranthine Night

I was lucky enough to get an advanced copy. I must say that when I finish one of her books, I’m disappointed – disappointed that the story ended.

This book was everything I as a fan had hoped for. It starts off where her last book ended. Have a favorite character of hers? You’ll probably find him or her in this book. Want tons of vampiric action? You’ll read about that in this book. Curious about Samael and Katelina? I won’t give anything away, so you’re going to have to read the book to find out. What about Jorick and Katelina’s relationship? Well, I think you better read this book. Trust me. Things happen quickly. Don’t lose out.

If you’ve never read any of the Amaranthine series, start with book one, Shades of Gray. However, don’t miss out on Clash of Legends because I’ll tell you, her stories just get better and better.

Pre-order your copy today. It’s one of the best reads I’ve had this year.

LHR, my friends.

Here is a sample of her beautiful poetry:

Tired

The rain

Is coming; the wind

Roars closer and

Even the trees

Desire an end to the storms.

Suddenly the clouds veer north and

Only the sun remains in the blue sky.

The birds are chirping now

Instead of hiding.

Robins and blue jays frolic in the

Early morning light as the storm passes and

Day breaks.

Poetry Stepping Stones by DM Yates

HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Poetry can warm your heart and soul this winter

As I mentioned in my last post, I feel that my heart belongs to writing but my soul belongs to poetry. I have written poetry since I was young. I wish I would have kept what I wrote but I didn’t.

I have put all my books on sale as a gift to you for all your support including my treasured book of poetry. All my works are available for just 99 cents from Nov 2014 through Jan 2015. Later, I’ll list where you can find my books.

Stepping Stones is a collection of my works in a wide range of categories. This cover came to me in a dream and thanks to the genius of Joleene Naylor’s cover art, it came to life.

One of my goals in life is to get people interested in poetry again. There are so many forms and genres available that there’s surely one to fit your interest.

I write mainly in rhyme but don’t let that stop you from getting my book and enjoying the many poems.

Here are a few samples that you’ll find in Stepping Stones:

The Falling Snow

The falling snow

lays quietly

atop the field,

upon the trees.

In thick flurries

it now surrounds

all of nature

on frozen grounds.

It’s not the same

as wind or rain

that slams against

the window pane.

The gales will moan

and shriek and blow,

and often they

make quite a show.

The sleet will prance

its chilling dance—

plummet and ping

at every chance.

The gusts will swirl

and seem a fright.

Yet it can’t change

the earth to white.

Mists drizzle down

through clouds of grey

or drench the sod,

still rare will stay.

Glistening flakes

so bright at night

make not a sound

when they alight.

But gentle fluff

descends aglow

and cloaks the world

in icy dough.

It’s wonder as

the eyes do gaze,

as silently

its sheen be splayed.

San Francisco

Ask of me romantic.

I’ll mention a city.

I’d confidently say San Francisco.

Dubbed the Bay Area.

Modern, yet eccentric.

Parking garages, clanging cable cars.

Roads that weave up and down.

The ferries on the bay.

Aromatic delis and restaurants.

Streets crowded with tourists.

Busy Ghirardelli.

Diverse attractions at Fisherman’s wharf.

The red Golden Gate Bridge.

Fetching Golden Gate Park.

Across the bay, charming Sausalito.

The Marina District.

Bustling Pacific port.

The peninsula crossed by 3 bridges.

The prison Alcatraz.

Pier 39 sea lions.

Rising mists from the Pacific Ocean.

Eclectic and diverse.

City of Seven Hills.

Romantically defined – San Francisco.

The Waterfall

How I love a waterfall—

gushing, rushing down Earth’s wall,

crashing hard upon the ground,

as it splatters all around.

Watch its many molecules

sparkling like pure shiny jewels.

Riding, gliding o’er the trail,

Briskly coursing through the vale.

Oh, those hydro beads have fun,

dashing, splashing on the run.

Poetry by Bonnie Mutchler

Happy Holidays Week Two

Keeping up with my list of books for holiday gifts, this week I showcase poetry books. Last week, I pointed out two individuals for book covers and suggested how unique this gift would be for that special author or small business owner. You can click on my older posts to read those.

All this week I will be promoting poetry by Indie Authors. I have often said that my heart belongs to writing but my soul belongs to poetry.

Poetry is not as popular as in past times but there are still plenty of modern-day skilled poets, and there are many who enjoy a good poetry book.

Bonnie Mutchler is a poet but not a good one. No. She is beyond excellent and pure genius. Her works are hauntingly bewitching. And here’s the best part – her books are FREE!

I only wish I could write poetry half as good as she can. I have several of her books and thoroughly enjoy reading each one.

The Egg of Orlin is just one of her many books. Here’s a sample of her poetic style:

The Ancient Tomb

Sealed in the tomb

Was the crown of doom

On the ancient brow of bone,

And his knights, so bold,

Had long grown cold,

Their bodies turned to stone.

See what I mean? Poetry, like novels has several genres and Ms. Mutchler writes in fiction, horror, fantasy, life, and love to name just a few.

What could make a better gift than inspiring, haunting poetry?

I’ll tell you what. Ms. Mutchler’s works are FREE, FREE, FREE!

Her works are available on Smashwords and Smashwords has the capability of downloading to most e-readers.

Here’s her Smashwords page where you can find all her works: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/bonniemutchler

So, not only grab these books as gifts for your poetry lovers but grab them for yourself as well.

Winter is settling in so relax, have a cup of whatever, and read her delightful poetry.

Make this Holiday Season special, not only for you and those you love but also for Independent Authors and small businesses.

******Now, I make a special plea. Please retweet, facebook like, wordpress like/press, G+, stumble upon, email or share in any way you can these holiday posts. Let’s help all these authors by getting the word out about their works. Let’s put smiles on as many people as we can this season.

LHR, my dear friends
